WHAT IS THE TAKE IT IN STRIDES INITIATIVE ?

Take It In Strides: A Movement for Mental Health & Suicide Awareness

Take It In Strides is more than a walk or a run, it’s a growing community movement dedicated

to breaking the stigma surrounding mental health and suicide, one stride at a time.

What began as a way to honour loved ones lost to suicide has evolved into a powerful initiative focused on connection,

awareness, and action. Each step taken is a reminder that no one struggles alone, and that as a community,

we can support, educate, and uplift one another.

Over the past three years, thanks to incredible community support, we have raised over $150,000 in support of mental health initiatives. This year, we continue that momentum with the goal of creating an even greater impact.

At its core, Take It In Strides is about:

  • Honouring those we’ve lost

  • Supporting those who are struggling

  • Educating our community on suicide prevention

  • Eliminating stigma through open conversation and shared experiences

Participants can take part in a 5 km or 10 km run, a 3 km walk, or join virtually from anywhere,

because this movement is not limited by distance, but united by purpose.

Beyond the event itself, we are working alongside organizations like the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) and the Children’s Centre Thunder Bay (CCTB) to provide access to workshops and training focused on mental health awareness and suicide prevention. These opportunities aim to empower individuals with the tools and confidence to support those around them.

Proceeds from the initiative will be donated to:

  • The Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA)

  • The Children’s Centre Foundation (CCTB)

Participants are encouraged to share their stories, show support,

and stand in solidarity with those impacted by mental health challenges.

Event Details
The 2026 Take It In Strides Run will take place at Boulevard Lake in Thunder Bay,

with a virtual participation option available for those who wish to join from afar.

In addition, we will host a community spaghetti dinner leading up to the event,

creating another opportunity to come together, connect, and continue the conversation.
